In this film we meet Ryzhuk Vasy Kyrylovych, one of the last traditional horn blowers of Ukraine.

While on our Ukraine & Moldova: Europe’s Wild Frontier tour, our video producer George was introduced to Ryzhuk, a local trembita player. A trembita is a type of wooden horn which is common in Ukraine.

Ryzhuk explained to George the origins of the instrument, and how he came to play the trembita. It’s clear to see the love that Ryzhuk has for the traditional music of his culture.

In keeping with the hospitality George experienced throughout Ukraine, while they were talking Ryzhuk’s wife served up a glass of delicious fresh milk, still warm from the cow.
